Madarász Isti was born in 1976 in Miskolc, Hungary. He's been making films since his high school years. Each of his early short films won several awards on student film festivals.
His official directorial debut was in February of 2007 on the Hungarian Film week, with his self written time traveling short film “Előbb-utóbb” (Sooner or later). The film won several awards and was selected to more then 20 festivals around the world.
He was working on commercials and music videos, created making of featurettes to DVD extras, worked as an assistant director in Hungarian and International feature films and also edited movie trailers. He directed more than 100 episodes of different TV series.
Isti is well known for his poignant enthusiasm for filmmaking, the sometimes twisted but deeply emotional stories, complex and tricky shots and his fond of using practical, creative on-set visual effects.
He directed three TV movies for the Hungarian Television: the YA adventure film “A legyőzhetetlenek” (The Invincibles, 2013), which was sold to 7 European countries.
“A Fekete Múmia Átka” (Curse of the Black Mummy, 2015) was an adaptation of the famous Hungarian comedy writer, Jenő Rejtő’s novel.
The newest one is “Egy szerelem gasztronómiája” (Gastronomy of love, 2017) which is a romantic musical, and currently is nominated for 5 Hungarian Film Award, including Best TV movie and Best director).
His debut movie with a wide theatrical release was Hurok (Loop, 2016), a twisted structural time-traveling thriller, nominated to 10 Hungarian Film Award, including Best film and Best director. The movie is still in the festival circuits and was sold to numerous countries all over the world.
These days he is directing commercials and full CGI cinematic films for computer games at DIGIC (Destiny 2, Call of Duty).
